Soon to be dead Symbian still leading.
Yay! more statistics for you. This time though, they’re kinda interesting. Gartner has just revealed its rankings of Operating Systems the world over. This time though, they’re yearly report shows us some rather interesting changes.
Android, in one year, went from being a pitiful last place in 2009 to number 2 in 2010 up from a measly 3.9% of the market to a massive 22.7% in 2010. Symbian, still leads this leader-board with a worldwide market share of 37.6% although this is a drop of nearly 10% from 2009′s 46.9%. Probably one of the reasons for the recent tie-in with Microsoft.
iOS seems to have remained relatively consistent though RIM, Microsoft and Symbian have all seen declining numbers. With the increasing popularity of Windows Phone 7 and their latest tie-in with Nokia it will be interesting to see where Symbian and Microsoft stand at the end of this year.
