Is the extra price worth the performance?
Debuting our new testbed, which you have seen in action already we have a fully star-studded lineup, featuring the Intel Core i7-2600K, Kingmax DDR3-2200 4GB, Gigabyte P67A-UD7, Kingston V-Series 64GB SSD with Windows 7 Ultimate, all of which is powered by our Cooler Master 1200W Silent Pro Gold PSU. For comparisons I’m using the stock Zotac GTX 580 and AMD HD 6970.
The HD 6970 is the flagship card from AMD, so it had to be included here, despite it not competing directly with the GTX 580 but rather the GTX 570. However, performance wise the HD 6970 is still a step ahead of the GTX 570, so that’s why it’s here. It’s DX11 and DX9 performance is still up to par with the GTX 580 after all. Speaking of which, there’s a 4% performance increase of the GTX 580 AMP! Edition over the vanilla GTX 580.
