Case Mate Fuel Max for iPhone 4 Review
January 30, 2011 by Mufaddal Fakhruddin

Nature is a bloody b-…er, you know, that word. It has the tendency to screw you over when you least expect it. And this stands true especially for batteries. At a recent event, I had an opportunity to video interview a really pretty lady at one of the numerous stands, but guess what? Yup, my iPhone’s battery died. It worked just 2 mins ago, but it chose that specific moment to wave me the finger. And thanks to Apple’s use of its proprietary connectivity, it wasn’t possible to charge it via the common USB cables. In these times is when a secondary battery backup solution like the Case Mate Fuel Max comes in handy. The Fuel Max sports a 2000 mAh battery, which is much larger than the iPhone’s itself, and promises to delivers additional hours of juice when you are down and out.
The Fuel Max slides over the iPhone pretty easily and is a breeze to install. You just pop off the top part of the case, slide the iPhone in, and put the top cover back on. There, you just turned your iPhone into a big, fat brick! The Fuel Max certainly adds to the dimensions, likely due to the battery fitted in. If you are looking at this case to provide you the same visual stimulation that the iPhone gives – yup, you can forget that. It completely kills the look and feel of the iPhone. But, what it gives in return is solid protection. It turns the iPhone from a whimpering cat into a bulked Hulk. It can easily take a fall or two, though I would still be a bit careful since the glass on the iPhone 4 is known to crack under the hard shells.
That said the case is pretty well designed. It feels great in the hand. The matte black plastic, usually seen adorned on Razer mices, is smooth to touch and offers increased grip-ability. However, as the nature of the material used, it will get stained by sweat botches and stains after some use. It’s really hard to clean anything of this surface as it soaks in everything instantly.
Every port on the iPhone is easily accessible, though reaching for the mute button can take slightly bit of effort due to the case’s depth. The Fuel Max is charged via a normal USB port, which also means that you can use the case to charge your iPhone and access its content by using a normal USB cable! The back of the case features a power button and four LED lights to indicate battery life.
Case Mate promises up to 9 additional hours beyond standard iPhone battery life, or additional 7 hours for Internet or 30 hours for audio playback. Unfortunately, the review unit provided to me failed to match those numbers. I face two problems – first, the case took nearly 4 hours to reach the final stage of charging, and after an hour later, it still wasn’t fully charged. Second, the case would turn off at random times while re-charging the iPhone, and would not turn on unless it was reconnected through the USB cable. Also, the Fuel Max battery was completely over after re-charging the iPhone to just 60%. Certainly not the number I was looking forward to.
At $99, Fuel Max is expensive. But it does offer solid protection and additional battery power even though not as much as advertised. If you are the one that needs a re-charge every few hours, and wouldn’t mind comprising the gorgeousness of the iPhone 4, this is a good case to have.
Internet Explorer 9 Release Candidate to launch next month

Usually, release candidates of a software is celebrated on Internet forums, Twitter and Facebook, but Microsoft is different – and that’s because they got the money to roll out. Microsoft has sent invites to media sites to join in on the launch event of the first release candidate for its upcoming browser Internet Explorer 9.
The invite read, “Members from the Internet Explorer team (and some special guests) will be visiting San Francisco in two weeks to share some important news. I know it’s an extremely busy news week already, but we’re hoping you can join us.”
Internet Explorer 9 will feature a fresh look and bout of features that Microsoft hopes will hold enough fire power to compete against Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Will IE9 be able to recapture its lost pie on the browser market? We shall soon find out.

Apple sued for false marketing

Apple promises the glass that adorns the iPhone 4 in the front and back is “20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic” and is pretty much “ultra-durable”; however, Donald LeBuhn begs to…ah no, sues to disagree.
LeBuhn, who is a California resident, was surprised when he found out that his iPhone 4′s glass had shattered after his daughter accidentally dropped the phone while sending an SMS. Pretty fragile for the promised He-Man glass, no? The issue isn’t a new one, and is well documented. A survey recently revealed that iPhone 4 owners were seeing 82% more screen breaks than previous iPhone versions. The survey was conducted on more than 20,000 iPhones and also found that more than 15% of people who buy the iPhone 4 will experience the heart-crunching sound of iPhone 4′s glasses shattering on the ground, maybe in slow motion.
LeBuhn in his lawsuit says, ” Apple has failed to warn and continues to sell this product with no warning to customers that the glass housing is defective.” He is now asking Apple to not only compensate him, but everyone who has ever had their iPhone 4 refurbished due to the issue.

Press release:
Dubai Internet City, part of TECOM Investments, today announced it has registered year-on-year growth in 2010 with 150 companies setting up base at the ICT cluster.
In 2010, DIC also saw 48 of its business partners expanding their commercial operations and businesses in the region.
The growth witnessed by the ICT cluster is poised to increase further in 2011 with enterprise IT spending in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) forecast to reach US$795.2 billion , a 1.3 percent increase from 2010, according to Gartner.
Malek Al Malek, Managing Director at Dubai Internet City and Dubai Outsource Zone, said: “The year 2010 proved positive for us on the back of an industry uptrend and saw many businesses emerging as winners. Additional investments in potential growth areas and operational expansion beyond the region were also witnessed. For DIC, this translates into more companies opening direct offices at the ICT park with most of the leading brands driving the region’s positive trend.
“The favourable year-on-year trend for the ICT cluster reflects the development in the region that continues to attract a large community of ICT professionals and specialists. We believe the new investments and influx of top level executives will continue in 2011 with multinational organisations across the globe regarding this region as the next growth area.”
Key sectors that saw new additions at Dubai Internet City in 2010 include telecommunications and networking, as well as software, Internet and multimedia. Cable and Wireless Europe, ADP Dealer Services Gulf, Pitney Bowes Software, China Communication Service, and Versata are among the top global brands that chose to base their operations at the ICT business park.
A significant number of companies from firststeps@DIC, a unique facility that allows businesses to lease short-term office space while exploring market opportunities, also expanded their presence into full-fledged operations. Currently, more than 25,000 ICT professionals are employed within DIC as part of technical teams and support staff.
Innovation, entrepreneurship and the evolving SME segment in the country were the other major focus areas for the ICT cluster in 2010. Supported by DIC, events such as DemoCamp Dubai with the first series of 2011 due in April, ArabNet Forum, TIE (The Indus Entrepreneurs), and SME Advisor Awards 2010 spotlighted the three areas in the country and the region at large.
Malek said: “Technology is key driver of growth and contributes significantly to the economy of the country, reflecting the entire region’s position as a fertile ground for small businesses. Though big businesses are the mainstay of the economy, smaller, nimbler organisations continue to expand their role as major growth enablers.
“As the region’s key technology cluster, Dubai Internet City remains integral to facilitating the growth of SMEs by creating and offering the necessary infrastructure and technical capabilities to grow from a grassroots level.”
At the forefront of the region’s ICT industry, Dubai Internet City remains committed to supporting emerging technology trends in the region and continues to play an instrumental role in developing the industry while contributing to Dubai’s drive towards creating a knowledge-based economy.

MSI P67A-GD65 Intel Socket 1155 Motherboard Review

“Whether you are an experienced overclocker or just getting into overclocking, the MSI P67A-GD65 should satisfy your urges for speed. Starting out with the OC Genie, which will overclock your system in only one second, we had a system that was overclocked to 4.2GHz, and was rock solid. Nothing like a little free performance with zero work. When I first started overclocking manually I was running an older version of the BIOS. With this version I was able to hit the same overclock with the Intel Core I5 2500K as we were able to previously in the ASUS P8P67 Deluxe article. Our previous best was 4824MHz on both of the ASUS boards that we have tested. Since then a new feature has been added within the BIOS for both the ASUS boards as well as for the MSI P67A-GD65. You can now have the Internal PLL Voltage either enabled or disabled. Once we enabled it within the MSI P67A-GD65 BIOS, things started to get just a little more interesting…”
