The word ordinary does not exist in Monster’s dictionary when they are designing audio products. And why should it when its backed by someone as extra-ordinarily talented as Dr. Dre. After all, he gets to have a final word on all products that carry the “beats by dr. dre” signage and I doubt the doctor will settle for anything that’s short of extra ordinary. That, in a word, summarized the Beatbox that we are looking at today.
The monstrous iPod dock comes packaged in a nice black box with a remote control, power cables and a various sizes of dock adaptors to accommodate the many models of iPods present on the market. Other than the iPod/iPhone, a 3.5mm jack connects pretty much any other modern audio device. Monster includes a voucher for a free 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable in the packaging.
Design-wise, the Beatbox looks quite retro featuring an all black design with a meshed grill on the front. On the top you have the dock connector where your iPod sits as well as the power button on the left side while a volume knob sits on the right. Also on the top, you also have a handle to carry the unit easily. The back has a 3.5mm jack as well as the power connector along with a Wireless port for use with the Monster Streamcast Wireless system.
The Beatbox features a digital power amp that powers two 5.25 inch long throw bass drivers and two concave 2 inch high frequency drivers to deliver audio. Monster suggests that you keep the unit flat on a surface, however, if you are planning on keeping it on the floor than I suggest you attach the two included feet on the front to throw the audio upwards.
