‘Let dev creativity flourish’.
GeoHot is a wanted man – both in a good and bad way. While Sony are not tiring from throwing lawsuits at him for hacking into its PS3 system, Microsoft on the other hand actually wants him to have a go at their platform; and what’s more, they are even willing to pass on a free handset.
Following Microsoft’s recent meeting with ChevronWP7 devs, the guys who first hacked into Windows Phone 7, GeoHot praised Microsoft’s way of dealing with jailbreakers, and half-joked about getting a WP7 smartphone. He wrote on his blog:
“Perhaps a more appropriate way to deal with jailbreakers. I’m going out to buy a Windows 7 phone.”
Instead of sending over lawyers to his house, Brandon Watson, Director for Developer Experience for Windows Phone, sent across the following encouraging tweet:
It’s refreshing to see a company not take a hard stance on jailbreaking. Of course, this will all work out for Microsoft in the end, but it sends out a great message for developers to take up on the platform.
