Microsoft breaks their mum on sales figures.

Microsoft announced that they have sold over 1.5 million Windows Phone 7 through its various manufacturing partners.

Achim Berg, Microsoft Vice President for mobile communications business and marketing group said the sales figures were of the first six weeks since its retail launch. Berg believes that WP7 has been a success for the company, and that overall customer satisfaction seems to be very high.

“Sales are ramping well as our reputation is growing for offering users a unique experience and are in line with our expectations – especially when compared to other new platform introductions. With a new platform you have to look at a couple of things, first of all customer satisfaction. As I mentioned before, we’ve seen great response on the complete mobile phone experience.”

Berg also said an update for the mobile platform is coming soon, which is rumored to be rolled out some time early Jan next year.

Not very impressive figure given than that it only reflects the sales through manufacturing partners probably to carriers and not to end users.
According to Google Engineering VP, 300,000 android devices are activated daily. So practically the number of devices sold (supposedly) by MS in 6 weeks is equivalent to the number of Android devices activated in 5 days! Quite a challenging game for Windows phone 7…
