Similarities between accounts lead to virus attack.

Masahable is reporting that Twitter has been compromised with a virus attack which it says is “spreading like wildfire”. The attack comes in the form of a tweet advertising acai berries, with a URL that compromises the user account when clicked.

According to Del Harvey, head of Twitter’s Trist and Safety Team, the virus attack could be related to the recent Gawker compromise which saw 1.5 million user accounts and the entire sites’ database leaked on to torrent sites.

Gawker and Twitter users are recommended to change their passwords immediately.
