Facebook owner joins other high profile names with Warren Buffet’s ‘Giving Pledge’.
Mark Zuckerberg, co-founder of the social networking giant Facebook, has decided to donate most of his wealth to charity, joining some of the world’s richest people by doing so.
Zuckerberg was among the 17 new signatories that signed up for Giving Pledge, a project headed by Warren Buffet along with Bill Gates and Melinda Gates. The project helps regulate the wealth donated by pledged billionaires into philanthropic causes or charitable organisations either before or after their death.
Zuckerberg, in a statement, said that there was no reason for him to wait until late in his career to give back.
”Why wait when there is so much to be done? With a generation of younger folks who have thrived on the success of their companies, there is a big opportunity for many of us to give back earlier in our lifetime and see the impact of our philanthropic efforts,” he said.
Zuckerberg joins high profile names such as New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, George Lucas, Barron Hilton and of course, Bill Gates.
