He thinks Android based tablets will be big in 2011

The guys from NVIDIA were in town talking about their upcoming 500 series GPU for notebooks. What they showed was partly under NDA due to the GPU working along with Intel’s Sandy Bridge CPU. What we can tell you is that there will be a 5xxM versions of the GPU targeted towards notebooks from thin and light to mainstream. For the heavy duty / gaming segment, NVIDIA will be using the 470GXT and 480GTX GPUs.

We had a quick chat with Luciano Alibrandi, Director of Public Relations EMEAI who talked about the desktop, notebook and tablet segments and where NVIDIA is placed at the moment as well as where they see it going in the next year.

As you can probably tell, NVIDIA is strongly backing Google in the tablets market with their Tegra based GPUs and from the couple of sneak peaks we’ve seen, this little “chip” as Andy Rubin calls it, certainly has the potential to outpace the rest.
