HTC working with Microsoft to customize WP7 interface

HTC looking to bring Sense to WP7 soon.

In an interview with Forbes Mobilize blog, HTC’s Drew Bamford, head of user experience, said that the company is looking to bring their Sense UI to their Windows Phone 7 phones by working closely with Microsoft. Currently, Microsoft does not allow any third-party customization on its OS as part of their drive to maintain user interface consistency and timely updates.

“HTC’s goal is for the Sense experience to span all of our products,” said Mr. Bamford. “Microsoft has its own goal of consistency across Windows Phone 7 products. I think it comes down to working closely with Microsoft to do as much as we can.”

One of the best things about the iOS is its consistency in its user-interface (unjailbroken, of course), and it is what Microsoft is aiming for with their Windows Phone 7 platform. Let’s hope that HTC manages to implement their own UI without breaking that consistency.
