Google launches Android into spaaaacce

Takes the competition to a new level. Literally.

In an incredibly awesome publicity stunt, Google tied up seven Nexus S to weather balloons and let them loose to be sent over 100,000 feet above the Earth’s surface. Effectively placing the competition to a whole new market segment. I wonder if our green friends would be interested in our little technology.

The Nexus S phones were running various apps such as Google Maps, Google Sky Map and Latitude. The built-in GPS managed to function up until 60,000 feet and the phone remained operational to -50 degree Celsius. Check out the videos below to see the journey up above.
