Google Latitude now available on the iPhone

Google announced yesterday that it has launched its Latitude application for the iPhone.

Latitude basically is a location-aware mobile application that allows users to track their friends and family on Google Maps in real-time, whilst also allowing to share their own location as well. The application has been available on Android, Blackberry, Symbian and Windows Mobile for months. There is a also a web version available.

Latitude allows users to:

- See where their friends are

- Share their location continuously with whomever they choose

- Contact friends by phone, text message, or email

- Control their location and privacy

“Latitude’s focus has always been on one goal: make it simple to stay in touch with friends and family by sharing where you are with each other. Simple setup. Simple sharing without fumbling for your phone,” writes Chris Lambert, software engineer at Google.

Latitude was built from the ground up for the iOS 4 and fully supports the operating system’s multitasking abilities.

Google Latitude is now available on the App Store for free. Below is a video from Google detailing the app:
