New feature will auto-tag people using facial mapping magic.

Manual tagging? That’s so…err…2008! With Facebook’s new feature, we will longer have to do the laborious and tiring work of manually tagging people everytime we upload our (embarrassing) party pics.

The new feature is called ‘tag suggestion’ that will scan newly uploaded pictures and automatically tag recognized faces. Here is how it will work: “When you or a friend upload new photos, we use face recognition software—similar to that found in many photo editing tools—to match your new photos to other photos you’re tagged in. We group similar photos together and, whenever possible, suggest the name of the friend in the photos.”

Facebook will offer an opt-out for those wanting to continue with their clicking. Tag suggestion will be rolled out in the coming weeks.
