Profits, not so much.

At a Bing Summit in San Francisco, Microsoft revealed that the search engine has grown 50% this year, with appox 90 million users utilizing the search engine.

Bing now controls 11.8% of the market share, an increase of 48% since the search engine was relaunched in June of last year. Searches related to music has seen the most improvement, while users continue using the search engines’ travel and shopping guides to plan their route. Along with the Yahoo service, Bing holds a total 28% of the market share.

The service has also seen its mobile app usage increase by 224%, with 5.5m iOS downloads.

Impressive number of stats here, and you would think Microsoft were cashing in on the moolah already, right? Not quite. Microsoft continues to lose money– appox about $2 billion USD. Bing still has a long way to go with Google commanding the lion’s share in the search engine territory.

Over the months, however, Bing has seen some fantastic improvements that caused even Google to take ‘inspiration’ from, such as the revamped image search, website preview and side bar options. If Microsoft continues to drive the service even further, Google may have something else to worry about pretty soon.
