The mainstream hill has a new king. Or two.

The Verdict:
The mainstream champs.

Our testbed is the usual, Intel Core i7 965 EE with 3GB Corsair XMS3-1333 RAM on the ASUS II Rampage Extreme Motherboard, Corsair HX1000W PSU and Kingston 64GB SSDnow (V Series). Drivers used were the latest Catalyst 10.10 for the new cards. In addition to the ASUS Matrix5870 and MSI N480GTX Lightning, we’ll also be comparing the Zotac GTX 460 1GB.

Here the R6870 sticks close to the heels of the Matrix5870 and the N480GTX. Keep in mind the price difference between these two cards and the performance gap between them and the R6870 looks even more incredulous. The R6850 holds it’s own against the GTX 460 by a significant margin.

From auditing to editing, I now test and analyze the latest gadgets and games instead of the latest financial statements. Both jobs are equally intense and rewarding. When I'm not burning up hardware in the name of science, you'll find me nuking in DOTA 2 or engineering in TF2.
