BitTorrent apps gets approval at App Store

IS Drive app sneaks through the Apple gates.

Apple completely and utterly rejects that has anything to do with “infringing third party rights”, and that includes BitTorrent clients for its App store. But an app called IS Drive, a BitTorrent app, was approved and is now readily available.

How did that happen? It is actually  a  matter of clever design than a change of heart from the iDevice makers. As TorrentFreak points out, “the application allows users of Imageshack’s torrent download service to control and add torrent downloads through a handy interface. In addition, the App shows screenshots of completed video downloads.” Of course, only users of the IS Drive can use this app.

The author of the app plans to feature-update the app in the future, such adding the ability to add your own sources. “I’ll probably add a search feature where it’s up to the user to manually add the torrent site they want. The app will not be designed to easily break the law and I hope no one intends to do so. But if a user is determined to break the law, what business is that of mine or Apple’s? They could do the same in Safari anyway, right?”

While a real BitTorrent clients may never get approved by Apple, this could be a workaround for those wanting their torrenting fix.
