Who to choose between Etisalat and Du to get your iPhone 4?
Now it’s time to talk about what the oldest and (technically) biggest telecom operator in the country has on offer for Apple’s latest gadget. Unlike du, Etisalat will be subsidizing the iPhone 4, making it a lot easier for people to get their hands on one.
*As per fair usage policy up to 2GB
As you can see, Etisalat offers a range of different packages, going from affordable to ridiculously expensive; much like du. However, both the first two packages in 16GB and 32GB variants add up to about the same amount eventually. The deciding factor here is how much you can afford to pay upfront and monthly; based on that alone you can get an iPhone 4 for free (16GB, Option 2).
Notice that their “Fair Usage Data Policy” is limited to 2GB a month for the “Unlimited” data plan, compared to 10GB from du, but you would be really hard pressed to exceed your monthly mobile usage beyond 2GB, so that may not be a deciding factor at all.
While the high-end packages from both companies vary significantly in cost and benefits, I’ll just look at the standard package from both operators that can come as close as possible for an apples to apples comparison.
Both du and Etisalat have very solid offers, with the latter providing a bit more flexibility in terms of payments. At the end of the day though, you have to decide whether the 1,200 international minutes and 600 SMS’s are worth the extra AED 412 (Option 1). If you’d like to make calls and send messages to friends and family around the world, du is the obvious winner. However, if your social life revolves mostly in UAE, then go for Etisalat.
One last thing to keep in mind is that if you’re the one who would like to keep your mobile dealings completely in your own hands, then du also offers the iPhone 4 for your existing or new prepaid connection, while Etisalat only offers the iPhone 4 through a 1 year postpaid contract (you can get your existing prepaid number converted to postpaid). So depending on your budget and monthly usage, either telecom operator should have a nice deal for you.
