Taiwan-based electronic manufacturer to produce RIM’s iPad competitor; rumored price to be $499.
According to DigiTimes, the Taiwan-based Quanta Computers will be handed over charge of producing RIM’s tablet PC, (horrifyingly) dubbed BlackPad. Quanta Computers are pretty apt at their job with customers in the likes of Acer, Apple, Cisco, Dell, Compaq, HP, Sun, Sharp, etc., and it wouldn’t be too shocking if the rumor is true. The article reads:
“The tablet (BlackPad) will support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as 3G through connection to a Blackberry smartphone. The device will be priced at US$499 and Quanta will start shipping orders in September with volumes to reach two million units in 2010 and eight million units in 2011.”
