Microsoft CEO confirms support from major manufacturers.
Giving the keynote at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, CEO Steve Ballmer announced that consumers can expect Windows 7 slates “over the course of the next several months”.
“We know you really want tot know what’s coming,” teased Ballmer before going on to confirm support “from Asus, from Dell, from Samsung, from Toshiba, from Sony”.
Ballmer failed to mention HP; however, one of the presentations slides included HP in the list of vendors along with Lenovo, Fujitsu, Onkyo, MotionComputing, Pegatron, Hanvon, and MSI.
Ballmers hopes that with a wide variety of products on the market, it will be able to piece away a large portion of the slate market held dominantly by Apple iPad.
“We want to give you a consumer-oriented device, but a device that fits and is manageable with today’s enterprise IT solutions,” Ballmer said. “They’ll come with keyboards, they’ll come without keyboards, they’ll be dockable, there’ll be many form factors, many price points, many sizes. But they will run Windows 7,” he added.
