Along with pretty colors, the new notebook series features support for 3G, GPS, digital compass and built-in accelerometer.

Press release:
Sony Gulf, the regional arm of consumer electronics giant Sony, today announced the latest addition to their VAIO® series of portable computing devices – the sleek, ultra-portable and colourful P series featuring built-in 3G, GPS and digital compass for easy on-the-move computing.

Weighing just 600g, with dimensions small enough to fit into a bag or jacket pocket, the VAIO® P series has all the power of a fully-featured Windows® device. Smaller than a notebook yet more capable than a smartphone, its design and colour options give it a high style quotient to boot.

Making usage on the move a breeze is the augmentation of the central trackball with the additional touchpad and mouse buttons. These duplicate the main controls on the notebook and are located at either edge of the screen to allow the easy use of both thumbs for operating the device.

The P Series is the first notebook computer from Sony with built-in GPS and a new Digital Compass. Perfect for indicating the location, the functions offers simple solutions to users such as finding a hotel or nearby restaurant when standing on the street corner in an unfamiliar city. Integrating the all new VAIO Location Search software, the feature offers a real-time map view without tying up the web browser. It displays a user’s map position and orientation along with nearby ‘Points of Interest’ and even local weather conditions.

The ultra-light notebook’s ‘on-the-go’ credentials for travellers are boosted with Everywair 3G on-board, giving high-speed connectivity to mobile networks (where available).

The new P Series is also the first VAIO with a built-in accelerometer that responds to physical movements. A gentle shake enables the VAIO to flick through pictures or pages of a PDF document, and even navigate back and forth through a user’s web browsing history.

When the computer is turned on its side, the sensor recognises this and automatically ‘flips’ the screen for easy reading of documents or web pages. When reading with the screen in a portrait position – just like a paperback book or magazine – the notebook’s additional mouse buttons are perfectly placed for comfortable page-turning.

Additionally, the P Series bright, extra-wide VAIO Display Plus is ideally proportioned for viewing movies or two web pages side-by-side. It also incorporates an ambient light sensor that dims screen illumination for comfortable viewing, saving power, while the comfortable full-pitch keyboard is beautifully designed for easy operation and typing.

The Quick Web Access and one-touch access to VAIO Care offer extra convenience, as does the handy new Change Resolution button that enables instant selection of a larger font size for easy on-screen reading or choosing maximum detail for HD movie viewing.

Available in three vibrant colour options of black, pink, and orange, the VAIO P series comes with a choice of stylish accessories that include a distinctively perforated silicone slip case and carry strap.

The new VIAO P Series ultra-portable notebook is currently available in the UAE in Jumbo Electronics and all other major retail electronics outlets.
