Future BMW cars will output Apple’s iPod interface to the display.

BMW announced that it will be adopting the little-known feature in iOS 4 called iPod Out. Rather than displaying BMW or Mini’s own interface, the iPod Out feature will output an iPod like interface on the car’s center dash display. The technique will also support on-device custom playlists and Genius playlists.

BMW says that it will help avoiding some of the pitfalls that tags along whenever Apple releases a new firmware for its iDevices. The support will be compatible across all Apple’s devices: iPhone 3G/3GS, iPhone 4, and iPod Touch.

BMW has a video demonstrating the feature, embedded below. This feature will be supported in their upcoming 2011 cars.
