An iPad is an iPad is an iPad. A few years back, people used to buy Apple products to differentiate themselves from the crowd. However, lately it seems that every Tom, Dick and Harry is carrying some Apple product. In fact, just the other day, I saw a couple of people using the iPad at Crowne Plaza hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road.
So how do you differentiate your iPad from someone’s else’s? The obvious choice is to buy a skin or cover for it. However, I hate wrap around skins that not only spoil the beauty of your device but add thickness to it. Thus I was pleasantly surprised when I received the iPad Stealth Armor from @yourgearstore. The “barely there skin” for the iPad is more of a decal than a proper skin that makes your iPad look pretty cool from the back along with protecting the screen from scratches. Its available in the following four varieties- Black Carbon Fiber, White Carbon Fiber, Wood and Brushed Silver which is what we received.
Besides looking good, the Stealth Armor serves a couple of purposes. Using a heat-bond technology, it was originally developed in the automotive racing world to protect car exteriors from flying asphalt. What this means is that you have an extremely resistant material that will protect the back and front of your iPad from scratches and last a pretty long time without tear and wear.
Our kit included the Brushed Silver sticker for the back of the iPad, the protective film on the front along with application adhesive and a scrubber to make sure no bubbles are left when applying. I started the application from the back side and it can get pretty tricky to align the Stealth Armor to your iPad. After a few minutes, I managed to get a straight edge from one of the sides, however the other side left an mm or two of space uncovered on your iPad. Its not that big of a deal if you aren’t extremely anal. The following video shows a demo of applying the back cover.
Moving on to the front, the included film will once again spare your iPad from any scratches. You apply by spraying the included liquid on the iPad’s surface (which I’m told is simply soap water) and then you can slide the film around for a few seconds to get the alignment right before the liquid hardens enough to keep the film from floating off.
I’ve had the Stealth Armour on my iPad for about four days now and what I can say is that it certainly makes the iPad look different and attractive. The skin hasn’t shown the slightest hint of moving from its position which is a good thing. I cant verify much on the scratch resistance as I am pretty careful with my iPad and there is no way I’m scrubbing a key on it just to find out. However, I dont have any reason to not believe that the Stealth Armor will not do what its meant to.
Priced at AED 179-199 for just the back cover or AED 239-269 for the full kit, the Stealth Armor is slightly on the higher side but then again, it doesn’t add any bulk to your iPad which almost every other skin/cases will. However, it will also not prevent your iPad from getting scratched/dented if you have butter fingers. So grab it if you are careful with your gear from souq.com or follow @yougearstore
