According to MacDailyNews, Apple is looking to make its $99 cloud service ‘MobileMe’ free. MDN received the news via a tip from a ‘credible’ source though it still maintains it as a ‘rumor’.
MobileME is a $99 per year service that “pushes email, contacts, and calendar events over the air to all your devices. So your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and PC stay in perfect sync”. It also provides other services like MobileME Gallery for sharing photos, Find My iPhone and Find My iPad, which helps you locate your lost/stone device, Remote Wipe, which allows you remotely detonate any personal information on your device, iDisk, for storing, and sharing files online, Me.com, a suite of ad-free web applications such as Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Gallery, iDisk, and Find My iPhone, among many other services and features.
Mobile ME was relaunched from .Mac at the WWDC 2008 on July 9, 2008.
MDN’s tipster couldn’t nail down an exact date other than saying it will be “sooner than latter…. depends on certain facilities going operational”.
