Toshiba expands its multimedia range with the StorE TV, a multimedia hard disk device offering a capacity of up to 2 terabytes.

Press release:
Toshiba Europe GmbH today launched the StorE TV, an external hard disk drive (HDD) optimised for multimedia applications. The Toshiba StorE TV serves as a multimedia player offering a capacity of up to 2 terabytes. A wide selection of interface also allows it to connect to various entertainment and multimedia devices and screens. The Toshiba StorE TV will be available during the second quarter of 2010 in the Middle East.

The increasing popularity of creating, downloading and sharing movies, audio files and pictures in high quality has led to a high demand for large storage capacity for multimedia content. “With the StorE TV Toshiba introduces its first external hard disk drive dedicated to multimedia applications,” says Leon Gifford, Country Manager for UAE and Bahrain, Computer Systems Division, Toshiba Gulf. “It is another important component in Toshiba’s everyday home entertainment portfolio, supporting a broad range of multimedia formats.” This gives users the freedom to choose the device and screen best suited to them to play music and display photos or videos stored on the device.

Comfortable graphical interface for ease-of-use
The user can navigate very easily and comfortably through the on-screen menu via the remote control which accompanies the device. The graphical user interface offers easy and quick access to all configuration options, multimedia player functions and stored files.

Elegant design for everyday use
The simple and elegant glossy black design of the StorE TV underlines its intended everyday use. At only 170 mm x 46 mm x 111 mm it is very handy and will discretely fit your living room environment.

Compatible with many multimedia standards
The Toshiba StorE TV has a 3.5’’ (8.89cm) hard disk drive which offers a capacity of up to 2 terabytes – enough for up to 770 hours of playback in DVD quality . The StorE TV decodes videos in standard definition quality (up to 720 x 576). Furthermore, the StorE TV can upscale stored SD content to HD quality (1080i) and display it via HDMI on a TV set. It also works with various music formats like MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC, as a video player decoding MPEG2, AVI and MP4 or as photo album which is compatible to JPEG format. Other interfaces of the StorE TV are component video, standard audio and video, and USB. The StorE TV also supports specifications for USB client and host. This enables users to connect an external storage device to the StoreE TV and playback multimedia content direct to the screen.

Crap. It keeps freezing and I can't find firware updates anywhere.

This is outdated technology , rather look at the AC Ryan or Mede8er if you are in South Africa. products like these have been on the markets for ages so nothing new about them.

Crap, as it was already said. AVI-Xvid only, this device is not able to read numerous common formats. Buggy FW inside and updates never available… Believe me, It's a waste of money.

What a piece of CRAP!!! The damn thing stopped allowing me to copy movies over from my computer. Now I can’t return it or anything. Oh and BTW, there is NO firmware upgrade available from the Toshiba website. It makes a great paper weight now. I should of known not to buy anything from Toshiba especially after they decided to do away with DVD-HD disks only a month after i had purchased an HD DVD player. That is yet something else that is worthless to me now as far as HD is concerned.

Well I bought the Toshiba StorE tv multimedia player and its just a pile of junk. Very disappointed in it. It is a storage device but when it comes to movies….it just freezes. The Toshiba site is a joke and trying to navigate around it is impossible. Stay away from this product….there are many more out there MUCH MUCH better than this. A very disillusioned buyer!!!!!!!!!!
