RIM shows of Blackberry 6 OS at WES

Dont count out RIM as the upcoming OS6 certainly shows some impressive stuff.

Now this is pretty awesome. At WES, RIM showed off a video of the upcoming OS 6 which is called Blackberry 6. Interestingly, the entire video was shown using the Blackberry Storm which leads me to believe that there is a lot more touchscreen action we will see from RIM in the upcoming years than just one model.

As you can see from the video above, the new OS certainly looks pretty slick. RIM talks about the Webkit browser which will be a fundamental platform for their widgets as well. Notice how fluid everything is- I certainly hope that is the case with the actual version. The new Home screen looks nice with sliding panels and how you bring it up by sliding in up.

You can also see pinch and zoom capabilities and tabbed browsing in that video . I also like the contextual menus that show up around an object. The search option reveals a new much nicer looking soft keyboard as well. Social feeds have seem to be differentiated in sliding pages which could be good or bad- I prefer everything in one screen.

Not sure if this will make me ditch the iPhone it might make me switching between the two devices a lot less frequent. Supposedly shipping next quarter.
