“As a reviewer I have tested out more iPhone cases that I could begin to count. With the introduction of the iPad I am experiencing a sense of déjà vu that is now four times bigger. Today I’ll be looking at a pair of cases from iLuv a company well known for their Apple peripherals. Two of their newest releases are the iCC806, which is a foldable leather case and the iCC803 their ultrathin case. Apparently iLuv is still using their strange name/numbering convention; but what’s in a name as long as the product is good. ”

“Today for review I’ve got another value priced SSD, this one is from OCZ, it’s called the Solid 2 and it is 60gb in capacity. I’ve put it up against a couple other value series SSDs and found that the Solid 2 performs well overall. During my testing I also found that the Solid 2 performs better than the specs indicate it should, which is good thing. So read on to learn more.. ”

PNY GTX-470

With top end GPU’s running in the $500 price range, stepped down models that offer great performance are popular. The PNY GTX-470 retails for around $350 and features a Limited Lifetime Warranty yet offers most of the performance of the GTX-480 so for price conscious enthusiasts might be a better choice.

With generations of GPU’s flying by picking up one GTX-470 now and another after the next generation launches is an attractive option. One GTX-470 is almost overkill but for those demanding top performance at a less than top price GTX-470 SLI is probably the best option we’ve seen.

ASRock X58 Extreme3 Intel X58 Motherboard Review

April 28, 2010 by

“The problem is the other new technologies that have just emerged, SATA 6 Gb/s and USB 3. Most of us had no idea that either was in the works when the Core i7/X58 emerged. Going to the expense of buying the new Core i7 980X, you definitely want the latest data transfer technologies, and with an older X58 board, the only way you will get them is with PCI expansion cards. But, the motherboard manufacturers are ready for this, and some have already released new models of X58 boards supporting SATA 6 Gb/s and USB 3. Today I will be looking at the ASRock X58 Extreme 3, their new top-of-the-line board. It no t only supports SATA 6 Gb/s and USB 3, but also supports eSATA 6Gb/s. Read on to check out the ASRock X58 Extreme3!”

AMD FirePro V5800 and V3800 Review – Evergreen completes the sweep

Quote: “None of the specifications or performance results from the remaining
new Evergreen-based FirePro cards are going to set records but AMD is doing
to this market what they did to NVIDIA on the desktop market – set
super-aggressive price/performance targets that NVIDIA will have trouble
even coming close in matching. The new FirePro V5800 is a bargain at under
$470 and the V3800 could set the professional world on fire selling for just
about $100.”

Facebook now supports HTML5 Videos

This is surely another setback for Adobe and their Flash platform as Facebook introduces HTML5 compatible videos that you will be able to view from your iPhone and iPad. Other sites that support HTML5 are YouTube, Vimeo, TED, New York Times and Time Magazine.

Is this the beginning of the end for Flash?

RIM shows of Blackberry 6 OS at WES

Now this is pretty awesome. At WES, RIM showed off a video of the upcoming OS 6 which is called Blackberry 6. Interestingly, the entire video was shown using the Blackberry Storm which leads me to believe that there is a lot more touchscreen action we will see from RIM in the upcoming years than just one model.

As you can see from the video above, the new OS certainly looks pretty slick. RIM talks about the Webkit browser which will be a fundamental platform for their widgets as well. Notice how fluid everything is- I certainly hope that is the case with the actual version. The new Home screen looks nice with sliding panels and how you bring it up by sliding in up.

You can also see pinch and zoom capabilities and tabbed browsing in that video . I also like the contextual menus that show up around an object. The search option reveals a new much nicer looking soft keyboard as well. Social feeds have seem to be differentiated in sliding pages which could be good or bad- I prefer everything in one screen.

Not sure if this will make me ditch the iPhone it might make me switching between the two devices a lot less frequent. Supposedly shipping next quarter.

Let your BMW read you your emails from your Blackberry

At WES 2010, BMW is showing their upcoming version of the iDrive system which will allow you to use your Blackberry with your BMW in more than just making calls. Still using Bluetooth, the car will be able to connect to your mobile and get all the email on its screen. The email will only show up when the car is stationary for safety purposes- which is a good thing as reading a short text messages can be hazardous while driving so reading an email will surely be much worse.

The best thing is that while you are driving, the car can READ the email out to you which is fantastic. Not only that, but if you have a contact in your BB address book associated with that email, you can very easily call them. Here is a short video that demos the technology.

Believe it or not, but I was actually thinking about something like this a year back and wondered why it wasn’t done before
