Google clarifies that it will not be bringing its Maps Navigation mobile app to iPhone.

It was just last Thursday when a Google executive confirmed plans to bring free turn-by-turn navigation to the iPhone at the London press conference launching Maps Navigation for Android phones in the U.K. Well, guess not. Today, Google clarified that it will actually not be bringing its mobile navigation app to the iPhone, although it may be ported to other mobile platforms in the future.

“We did not say we would bring it to iPhone, we said to date we’ve had it on Android and that in the future it may come to other platforms but did not confirm this will be coming to iPhone at all,” a Google spokesperson told PCWorld.

Google Maps Navigation, which will be available for Android 2.0, features 3D maps, turn-by-turn voice guidance, and automatic re-routing – all that at no cost for the user. The software actually stores the maps on your phone, only needing a data connection to calculate directions.
