Press release:
Etisalat announced today the names of its ‘Man City Alerts’ promotion winners, who won an all expense paid trip to watch the Manchester Derby live, played between Manchester City and Manchester United football clubs to be held on Saturday, 17 April 2010 at City of Manchester Stadium.

The unique opportunity came as a conclusion to Etisalat’s campaign that was launched to offer English football fans and particularly Manchester City Football Club (MCFC) supporters in the UAE, a chance to win a fully paid trip to the match, by simply subscribing to ‘Man city Alerts’ from Weyak. Customers can continue to avail of the Weyak-Man City alerts by simply sending an SMS ‘MC’ to 1110 for AED 4 weekly.

Following Etisalat’s three-year strategic partnership with MCFC as the exclusive Official Global Telecommunication partner, this is the first time that Etisalat customers will enjoy an all expenses paid trip to watch the English Premier League.

The winning group consists of 5 lucky participants who have won the chance to watch their favorite players in live football action. UAE Nationals Adel Abdulla Sharif Ahmed Ali and Taleb Khalifa Rashed Al Suwaidi; and British Nationals Emma Sims and Mark Lynch; participated and won by subscribing to the Man City Alerts via SMS. While John Grindley from Britain scored his lucky win on the radio competition that ran during the promotion period.

The Derby promises a game filled with enthusiasm as each team plays to win 3 points of the match; for Manchester United to compete for the number one position and Man City to sustain its 4th position in the League and become eligible for the UEFA Champions League 2010.

Haitham Al Kharusi, Vice President of Marketing Communications at Etisalat said, “Manchester City is a distinguished English football club, in that it is owned by the Abu Dhabi United Group for Investment and Development. The ownership gives the Club an added edge and better standing in the UAE due to its large number of fans and followers here. This also became an important factor in Etisalat’s decision to sponsor the talented team. By way of this campaign, we wanted to extend the benefits of our partnership to our loyal customers and football fans in the country.”

“During the past 5 years, Etisalat has actively encouraged football by lending its unstinting support to a lot many football events and activities, whether it’s the Etisalat Pro League or UAE club teams competing in international competitions. Etisalat has also broadened its horizons with increased support on the international level in order to fulfill its long-term strategic vision for expansion and to mark its position as one of the top-10 global telecom service providers.”

Etisalat has been an ardent football fan for many years. It has earned accolades for its commitment to the sport, having sponsored the UAE Football League since 2005 and vigorously contributing to nurture and develop the national football talent. These initiatives, coupled with strategic partnerships such as with MCFC, is a reflection of Etisalat’s long term commitment to elevate the standard of the game in UAE and taking each and every football enthusiast closer to the spirit of the game through exciting campaigns and promotions.
