According to Emirates Business 24-7,PC shipments to the UAE are expected to reach two million units in 2010, up from 1.75 million in 2009.” The bulk of this will be in the mobile category, with both notebooks and netbooks growing rapidly in number of units. We should  note that this talks about “shipments to the UAE”, which includes re-export so these are not numbers of the sales of PCs in the UAE.

As an example, Acer, one of the fastest growing companies in the PC sphere, has overtaken Dell as the number two seller of computer worldwide and expect to overtake HP in the mobile segment as worldwide number one next year. They are already number one in our region in notebook and netbook sales.

The Emirates Business article also references Apple’s iPad as a “one of many new devices coming to market that will change the entire PC ecosystem.” This will create a market for all manufacturers to provide devices in this category, often referred to as the tablet market.
