“It’s been a while since I’ve taken a look at any USB 3.0 products here at TestFreaks, but today I’ve got one that I think is worthy of a review. It’s a 3.5” SATA HDD enclosure from Vantec called the NexStar 3 SuperSpeed and it’s one of the most attractive and well made enclosures I’ve come across. It’s also one of the least expensive on the market when compared to the other limited choices we’ve got. ”

In Win Maelstrom Case Review
March 30, 2010 by t-break News

“In Win, as a high end case manufacturer, are the makers of some of the most uniquely visual designs on the market. Previous designs such as the Star Wars styled X-Fighter, stealth bomber-esque B2 and racing car inspired F430 have certainly caught the imagination offering a very different perspective to the full-ATX case.
In Win’s products are much more than novelty products though with extensive cooling systems and innovative mounting mechanisms providing a practical dimension to the eye-catching designs. The cooling aspect applies especially to the Maelstrom case to which this review is focused on as the chassis is able to house up to ten 120mm fans creating the potential for a huge cooling system. So how does the Maelstrom go about combining innovation, practicality and typically unique visuals? Let’s take a look…”

Razer Mako Speakers Review

“At £250/$375 the Makos are aimed squarely at the enthusiast crowd and, as they are a 2.1 channel set, at users with somewhat limited desk space. Whilst many gamers will baulk at such a steep price tag for a bundle comprising of merely two channels, these speakers’ specifications are top notch, and with no less than 300W of RMS power available they are more than a match for most surround sounds sets. The all-important frequency response specification also speaks volumes about the Mako’s capabilities as it stands at an impressive 25-20,000 Hz.”

“Today for review I’ve got a CPU cooler for my Corei5 750 Socket 1156 CPU from Thermaltake called the Contac 29. This cooler truly surprised me in its performance, I put it up against the Noctua NH-U12P and got virtually the same results in CPU temperatures. The Contac 29 is an inexpensive cooler at $40, but it’s well made and produces decent results. So read on to learn more.. ”

AMD Announces The Opteron 6000 Series Platform

Press release:
AMD (NYSE: AMD) announces availability of a new server platform featuring the world’s first 8- and 12-core x86 processor for the high-volume 2P and value 4P server market. The AMD Opteron™ 6000 Series platform addresses the unmistakable needs of server customers today – workload-specific performance, power efficiency, and overall value – while delivering more cores and more memory for less money. Leading OEMs including HP, Dell, Acer Group, Cray, and SGI are introducing new systems based on this highly scalable and reliable platform.
“As AMD has done before, we are again redefining the server market based on current customer requirements,” said Andrew Buxton, Director of Sales, AMD EMEA Component Channel. “The AMD Opteron 6000 Series platform signals a new era of server value, significantly disrupts today’s server economics and provides the performance-per-watt, value and consistency customers demand for their real-world data center workloads.”
The new AMD Opteron 6000 Series platform features include:
· The industry’s only 8- and 12-core server processors performing at up to two times the level of AMD’s previous generation 6-core processors, including an 88 percent increase in integer performance and a 119 percent increase in floating point performance².
· Enhanced integrated memory controller supporting four channels of DDR3 memory for up to a 2.5x improvement in overall memory bandwidth.
· Thirty-three percent more memory channels per processor than competitive 2P solutions.
· 50% higher DIMM capacity compared to previous generations, with up to 12 per processor, increasing the available memory overall and improving virtualization, database and HPC applications.
· AMD 5600 Series chipset with I/O virtualization capability, HyperTransport™ 3.0 technology and PCI Express® 2.0.
· Removal of the “4P tax”, since the same processors can be used in both 2P and 4P designs, and 4P-capable processors are now the same price as 2P-capable processors, bringing greatly improved value to the 4P space.
· Unprecedented price/performance. In a comparison between a best-performing 2P competitive platform versus a similar best-performing 4P AMD-based platform, customers can recognize up to double the performance and more than 10% lower total processor price.
· Significant new power management features including a C1E power state to conserve energy when idle, the Advanced Platform Management Link allowing APML-enabled platforms to be remotely monitored for power and cooling, and AMD CoolSpeed technology, which automatically reduces p-states if a specified temperature limit is exceeded.
· A wide range of power and performance options with no compromise on the available feature sets.
· A legacy of consistency and stability. The new AMD Opteron platform is chipset- and socket- compatible between 2P and 4P and will be compatible with the planned processors based on the next-generation AMD server processor core, code-named “Bulldozer”.

RWB: Gulf Countries Are ‘Enemies of the Internet’
March 30, 2010 by Mufaddal Fakhruddin

NGO Reporters Without Borders have called several Arab countries “Enemies of the Internet” with Eypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Tunisia being among the worst violators of freedom of speech.
Reporters without Borders are an organization that fights for freedom of press and defends journalist prosecuted for doing their jobs. They recently released their Internet Enemies report which stated that some sixty countries have experienced some form of web censorship in 2009, almost twice as much from the previous year.
“…Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan have opted for such massive filtering that their Internet users have chosen to practice self-censorship. For economic purposes, China, Egypt, Tunisia and Vietnam have wagered on a infrastructure development strategy while keeping a tight control over the Web’s political and social content (Chinese and Tunisian filtering systems are becoming increasingly sophisticated), and they are demonstrating a deep intolerance for critical opinions,” the RWB report explains, adding that bloggers and internet users in Iran are considered enemies of the government.
Countries like Turkey are “under surveillance” for blocking thousands of internet websites including the popular video hosting site Youtube. RWB says that the United Arab Emirates, also one of the countries under surveillance, will “need to make more progress to avoid getting transferred into the next Enemies of the Internet list”.
A soundly safe image hosting website like Flickr is blocked while potentially advert filled websites like Imageshack is freely accessible. Yeah, we can safely say that is not going to happen anytime soon.
