We look at our first H55 chipset based motherboard from Gigabyte.
The motherboard is a mini form factor sized up at 24.4cm x 21cm. Solid capacitors are located around the CPU socket to ensure better stability.
The board supports Intel 1156 socket Core i3, i5 and i7 CPUs. The MOSFETs around the CPU don’t have a heatsink on them but then again, this board is not targeted towards an enthusiast.
Like many microATX boards, there are only two memory slots supporting DDR3 800/1066/1333/1600/1800/2200+ MHz speeds.
Near the H55 Intel chipset are six SATA ports, four USB headers and a front panel connector.
The board holds two PCI X16 slots, one running at X16 and the other running at X4 speed supporting ATI Crossfire X technology. There are also two standard 32-bit PCI slots.
On the rear panel of the motherboard, you’ll find the following in sequence: two USB ports, PS/2 keyboard and mouse port, VGA and DVI outputs, HDMI, another six USB ports, RJ45 port, and six audio jacks (Center/Subwoofer Speaker Out/Rear Speaker Out/ Side Speaker Out/Line In/Line Out/Microphone).
The Onboard network is powered by REALTEK RTL8111D supporting Gigabit networking. Audio on board is by REALTEK ALC888B high definition audio chip supporting 7.1 Audio channel.
