G-Force HD Movie Review

QUOTE: “The dawn of the CG age has enabled us to see some miraculous sights. Dead public figures brought back to life, sprawling alien vistas, and this; crime fighting Guinea pigs.

Within moments of the start of the film, the audience is asked to believe the central premise of G-Force; that technology has been developed which allows guinea pigs to be able to speak perfect English. Once an audience has accepted this, for the purpose of entertainment they rightly will believe anything. So it’s not a terrible stretch to believe that they can fight crime, drive, dance etc. All of which, rest assured, occur in its scant 80 minutes run time.”

Toshiba HG2 43nm 256GB Solid State Drive Review

The 256GB Toshiba HG2 Series drive that we benchmarked proved to be a solid performing mainstream SSD from our testing. The vast majority of file transfers in Windows are sequential read and write data moves and the HG2 had very respectable sequential speeds. For example in ATTO we were able to reach 241MB/s read and 177MB/s write. These are the types of speeds that we would expect for a mainstream SSD in 2010. The Toshiba HG2 Series of SSDs also supports TRIM, which is is critical in making sure your drive is performing at the top of its game….”

UNITEK 2 Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Card

“Today for review I’ve got the Unitek 2 Port USB 3.0 PCI Express Card supplied by BrandoUSB. I took a look at one last week, it was a no-name or generic card and the speeds were decent, or at least they seemed that way as I didn’t have anything to compare it to. In this review today I’ll be comparing that no-name brand to the Unitek one I have today to see if there’s any difference between a name brand card and a generic one. ”

Huntkey Balance King 4500 450 W Power Supply Review

February 28, 2010 by

From six different power supply models from Huntkey we tested to date, five of them couldn’t deliver their labeled wattage, literally exploding (we posted the videos of the explosions on YouTube). They offered us money to take the reviews down and also started a campaign to make other manufacturers to boycott us, which actually backfired on them. You can read the whole story here. We got our hands on a model from a series we haven’t reviewed yet, Balance King, so we were really curious to see if this model would work fine or would also explode like its sisters. Check it out.”

Radeon HD 5830: A New Best-Buy in Sight

February 28, 2010 by

“A bit later than expected, the third and final model from AMD’s current top-class offer, as far as single-GPU cards are concerned, arrived to our doorstep. As a reminder, Radeons HD 5850 and 5870 appeared way back at the end of September last year, being the first DirectX 11 cards on the market, but also the most powerful ones. The new HD 5830 is a bit late, but just on time to spoil Nvidia’s plans concerning the release of their first DirectX 11 models. This card’s attractive price point should make the choice easier for many, as those who thought that the previous DirectX 11 Radeons were too expensive now have a good reason to opt for AMD…”

Summary:
The new Radeon 5830 has successfully filled the price gap between the weakest HD 5800 model and the strongest HD 5700 model, looking at a best-buy award without too much effort.

Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Intel X58 LGA 1366 Motherboard Review

Quote: “So in the back of my mind I had decided we had probably seen the last of the LGA 1366. A shame too, as there are other new technologies coming online, SuperSpeed USB 3, and SATA 6GB/s, and I figured the only way a Bloomfield user would get to use them would be by expansion cards. Then just last weekend I was chatting with a friend that had attended CES, who told me that Intel was working on a new LGA 1366 processor line, a six-core monster using 32nm…yeah, I know, I’m behind the times, the gossip about the new processors started back in Nov-Dec, but I was busy “fixing up” a &l dquo;fixer-upper” house and moving during that time. Anyway, I got a little excited, hoping that maybe LGA 1366 wasn’t dead, just in hibernation. The very next day, lo and behold, our friends at Gigabyte placed a cool little gem into my hands…a brand new LGA 1366 motherboard, complete with onboard SATA 6GB/s and USB 3. Today I will be looking at the Gigabyte X58A-UD3R, the entry-level model of their three new X58 motherboards, which appear to be designated differently from the older models by an “A” after the X58 in their name, and ending with an “R” rather than the usual “P”. Will this be the board of the future? Read on to see!”
