The 500 and 550 feature a newly-developed 12.3-megapixel APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor and 14.2-megapixel APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor
PR: Sony Gulf, the regional arm of consumer electronics giant Sony, today announced the expansion of its cameras - Alpha 500 and 550, delivering an exceptional combination of features that take photography to the next level.
The 500 and 550 feature a newly-developed 12.3-megapixel APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor and 14.2-megapixel APS-C Exmor CMOS sensor respectively, allowing users to capture high resolution images with ease. Coupled with a new BIONZ™ image processor and high ISO sensitivity of up to 12,800, users can now have more control during hand-held, low-light shooting conditions.
Also available on the new 500 and 550 is the Auto HDR (High Dynamic Range) mode where two exposures are combined to create an optimized image. By ensuring that both highlights and shadow detail are fully captured and reproduced, pictures taken using Auto HDR will look as realistic and beautiful as the original subject.
Sporting High-speed Continuous Shooting, capturing precious moments are made easier with burst shooting speeds that have been greatly improved on the new DSLR camera range.
When using the optical viewfinder, the DSLRs can shoot speeds of up to five frames per second (fps). During live view shooting, the 500 and 550 are able to capture up to four fps. In addition, the 550 has a Speed Priority mode that allows for up to seven fps (with focus and exposure locked at the first frame) and can be used in both optical viewfinder and Quick AF Live View modes.
Combining Face Detection and Smile Shutter capabilities, the 12.3-megapixel 500 and 14.2-megapixel 550 boast advanced Quick AF Live View, enabling users to effortlessly capture smiling faces on their DSLR cameras.
With Sony’s Smile Shutter mode activated, the cameras not only analyse and detect faces, they also determine if the subjects are smiling and automatically release the shutter once a desired smile level is achieved.
Incorporating Face Detection technology and fast Phase-Detection AF, the 500 and 550 automatically detect up to eight faces, instantly selecting and focusing on primary targets within the camera’s nine focus zones. In addition, the Face Detection mode optimizes image settings such as white balance, exposure, and the D-Range Optimizer ensuring a natural skin tone.
All cameras feature SteadyShot INSIDE, an in-body optical Image Stabilisation system that automatically counters unwanted camera shakes. Adding convenience, the new range is made to work with any , Minolta or Konica Minolta AF lenses, including the new DT 30mm F2.8 Macro SAM lens and DT 50mm F2.8 SAM lens.
Featuring a new Manual Focus Check Live View function for greater focus and frame control, the 500 and 550 allow photography enthusiasts watch the live view image directly on the LCD monitor with 100 per cent frame coverage. The cameras integrate a variable-angle three-inch LCD monitor treated with a multi-layer, anti-reflective coating for better visibility under bright outdoor light and allow for 7x or 14x zoom.
The DSLR cameras allow users to share striking images in a quick, convenient, hassle-free manner with their high-quality Full HD slideshow playback facility available on any compatible HD TV (via HDMI output). With BRAVIA Sync, users can easily control camera playback and BRAVIA TV functions using just one remote control.
The Memory Stick Duo slot supports high capacity Memory Stick media, including the new Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo HX cards. The new Memory Stick PRO Duo 32GB significantly increases memory space by storing over 5,000 pictures on a single card. In addition, both the 500 and 550 have an additional SD (Secure Digital) slot each.
The 500 will be available by mid December and the 550 will be available by January 2010 across select countries in the Middle East. In the UAE, the Alpha line-up will be available in all Jumbo Electronics retail stores and major electronics outlets.
