The motherboard’s black PCB is a full length ATX design and has dimensions of 30.5 cm x 24.5 cm.

This board uses AMD’s 790FX chipset and is equipped with an AM3 socket capable of tackling 45nm, 140-watt CPUs. It is compatible with the Phenom II, Athlon II and Sempron 100 series processors and supports AMD’s Cool ‘n’ Quiet Technology.

The motherboard features 4x DIMM sockets that supports up to 16GB of DDR3 memory in dual-channel mode.

There are 5x SATA connecters along with a single IDE connecter on the right of the AMD SB750 chipset. There’s also a power and reset button along with a ‘MemOK!’ button just next to it; the button is to patch memory issues and get the system up and running in no time. The technology is able to determine failsafe settings that can dramatically improve system booting success.

The Crosshair III features 2 x blue PCIe 2.0 x16 slots, 3 x PCIe 2.0 x1 slots and 1 x standard PCI 2.2 slot.

The rear I/O panel has 6 x USB 2.0/1.1 ports in total, a PS/2 Keyboard port(purple), a ‘Clr CMOS’ switch, an e-SATA port , a IEEE 1394a port and one LAN(RJ45) port.

The board features a Realtek RTL8111C network chipset that supports Gigabit speeds.

Asus bundles Supreme FX X-Fi Audio Card with the Crosshair III Formula. The card features include EAX Advanced™ HD 4.0, X-Fi CMSS-3D, X-Fi Crystalizer and Creative Alchemy.

The Audio card has eight ports and also includes S/PDIF and Coaxial ports. The Crosshair III features the ADI AD2000B audio chipset and it support 8-Channel audio.

    The GA-MA790FX-UD5P is cheaper and has exactly the same OCing potential and features (the non-ROG ones of course) as the Crosshair III. The ROG features are just a marketing gimmick and nothing more IMO.
