Something quite clear from the benchmarks on the previous page is that the HDX 16 is much better suited for multimedia and gaming. The lower speed CPU combined with the better GPU and faster hard drive makes the HDX 16 a great contender for that kind of market. With applications creating documents and spreadsheets as well as emails, a higher clocked CPU shows better performance- the reason you see the ASUS Lamborghini scoring better.

Lets see how the HDX does with battery life

The battery life on the HDX certainly isn’t one to get excited about. You’ll probably be able to watch on standard sized movie (90 minutes) but forget about anything like LOTR or Dark Knight. Even working with documents and emails is about a 100 minute affair or a very short flight.

With its heavy weight and less-than-stellar battery life, the HDX 16 seems to be a notebook best suited for a desktop replacement. Add to that the powerful 9600GT which is great for gaming and video encoding, and you’re looking at a further drain on the battery life. With all the emphasis on the laptop being a Desktop Replacement, it makes me wonder why HP chose a screen size for 16″ and not 17″ that is normally found on these types of notebooks and is a bit easier on the eye.

Maybe its there to utilize lesser space on your desk or to make it slightly easier to carry around than 17″ notebooks. Or maybe HP wants to focus on the 18″ version of this notebook as your Desktop Replacement. Whatever the reason be, the HDX 16 is a reasonably powerful notebook- especially for the multi-media/gaming oriented audience. It makes working fun.
