Viewing the heatsink from its’ side shows you why it weighs 520 grams!

From the rear, you can see the heat pipes stretching out from the base into the aluminium fins.

Here’s what gives the Triton 85 its’ numerical increment over the Triton 75 – the 120mm fan mounted on top of the heatsink, complete with a grille.

The 120mm fan uses a mounting clip to clamp onto the top of the heatsink. Conveniently enough, the clip can be easily removed, allowing you to mount any 120mm fan of your choice onto it. This is definitely a great way to eke out more performance from the Triton 85.

Looking into the origins of the fan and its’ specifications, we find out that it’s supplied by Power Logic, model number PLA12025S12L-4, rated to run at 1500 RPM providing 61.3 CFM with a noise level of 20.6 dBA.

The base of the heatsink features four holes where a LGA 775 bracket should be mounted. The base holds the four copper heat pipes that run through the aluminium fins.

A quick check on the base of the heatsink, to see how smooth it is, is rather disappointing. We have a machine lapped finish which barely reflects the screw we placed on it. The good news is that it should be fairly easy for enthusiasts to give it a good finish to squeeze out that extra bit of thermal conductivity.

After over 48 hours of stress testing, we pulled out the heatsink to see check how well the thermal paste was doing. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the base was in complete contact with the CPU.
