The Heatsink

The heatsink is encased in the golden-aureate frame, which is made out of plastic.

The Aluminium fins are exposed on the sides of the heatsink. You can also see the heat pipes running through them.

The heatsink features a top-mounted 120mm fan, which has a transparent acrylic finish.

Five copper heat pipes run through the base and into the aluminium fins. The heat pipes are nickel plated.

The base is also made out of copper with a nickel plating.

A quick test to check the finish of the base is very promising. Despite the nickel plating, it has an almost mirror-like finish. It’s by no means perfect, but it’s still pretty impressive.

We went ahead and removed the plastic casing to see the heatsink’s true form. Impressively enough, even the heatsink boasts a nickel plating finish.

The 120mm fan that Asus uses on the Axe Square is from Power Logic, model number PLA12025S12L-4. It’s rated to run at 1500 RPM providing 61.3 CFM and producing up to 20.6 dBA of noise. An interesting observation: this is the same fan Asus used on the Triton 85 heatsink.

I have just installed this beast into my overheating PC, the CPU is now running 20-25C cooler, 39-48C. The installation is really easy, no need to remove the motherboard, although it did only just fit into my now somewhat dated case.
