In entirely expected news, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 for the PS5 has been selling really well. However, Sony today revealed that the game has achieved a significant milestone.

In a tweet, PlayStation announced that Insomniac’s web-swinging action-adventure has sold more than 2.5 million copies in the first 24 hours since launch, and it has also become the fastest-selling PlayStation Studio game ever.

The sales milestone means that Spider-Man 2 has overtaken the title from God of War: Ragnarok; however, whether it will successfully beat its debut week sales of 5.1 million copies remains to be seen. It should be noted that Ragnarok was released for both the PS4 and PS5, while Spider-Man 2 is a PS5 exclusive, giving it a potentially smaller player base to sell as many copies. But underestimating a Spider-Man game’s popularity would be a fool’s errand, with the original selling over 33 million copies, so anything is possible.

Reception for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been exceptional from gamers worldwide, despite a few noticeable issues with bugs. The game was also lauded by critics, who praised it for its emotional story, improved combat, fast loading times, and stellar visual fidelity.

Are you one of the 2.5 million who bought the game on launch? If so, what do you think of it? Let us know in the comments below!
