Danny Trejo striking back in Machete sequel ‘Machete Kills’

Probably the only movie to ever claim to be adapted from a fake movie trailer added in another movie was 2010′s ‘Machete’ starring Danny Trejo and directed by Robert Rodriguez. Based off a faux trailer for ‘Grindhouse’, it was a fan favorite and the director promised a sequel titled ‘Machete Kills’ at the end of the movie (pictured below). Looks like that’s now a reality and Danny Trejo is officially returning.

Deadline reports that the sequel is now financed and ready to begin shooting, with Danny Trejo and surviving cast members returning for the filmĀ and Rodriguez helming it. Here’s the synopsis for the movie:
The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. Government for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a madman cartel leader and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on an army in an effort to dismantle a plan for global anarchy.
Sounds pretty standard but the distinctive ethnic touch of Machete will make it an interesting watch for sure. I’m surprised Rodriguez is still adamant on making this filmĀ series when he’s a director with big enough cred to actually make other larger films. But seems like this is the kind of movies he likes making and the reason he came into filmmaking in the first place.
There’s a third sequel titled ‘Machete Kills Again’ mentioned already, but let’s wait and see how this one fares.
‘The Wolverine’ arriving July 2013

While ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ wasn’t the best of character-based movies for Wolverine, Fox is going to fix that issue with ‘The Wolverine’ which is a standalone film only about his character and is directed by James Mangold based on a script by Christopher McQuarrie with of course Hugh Jackman returning. The film now also has a release date.

20th Century Fox has announced that the movie will release in the US on July 26, 2013, which puts it right towards the end of the summer reason unlike how ‘Origins’ was the one that kicked the season off in 2009. It’s a smart move and shows that the movie isn’t some run of the mill actioner but something deeper. Darren Aronofsky was originally supposed to direct the film but had to leave due to scheduling issues, which is a damn shame. But the plot of the movie is based on a standalone story of Wolverine arriving in Japan and falling in love with a Japanese woman but having to fight an army of samurais in his family to win her.
What do you think of a standalone Wolverine movie?
