Globe-trotting soldier-of-fortune JC is hired by shady antiques dealers to track down six missing bronze animal-heads by any means necessary. The six bronzes originally formed part of a set of twelve, representing the animals of the Chinese Zodiac, forming part of a fountain in the old Summer Palace outside Beijing; they were looted and dispersed when Anglo-French armies sacked the Summer Palace in 1860. JC and his crack team of assistants first head to France, where two of the bronzes are believed to be held in a private collection. The operation to ‘liberate’ the bronzes from a heavily guarded Chateau brings JC into an uneasy alliance with Coco, a Chinese student in Paris, who is active in a global movement which campaigns for stolen cultural treasures to be returned to their homelands. Along the way, JC makes an enemy-for-life of Pierre, the chief of staff at the Chateau Marceau, and an unexpected friend of Katherine, a bankrupted aristocrat whose home contains another of the missing bronzes.

The trail next leads JC and his team, now including Coco and Katherine, to a forgotten tropical island in the South Seas, where two missing animal heads are found in a beached wreck. A multi-national band of pirates moves to block the team’s getaway, but JC’s skill and resourcefulness wins the day. Back home, JC is stunned to learn that his employers already had the sixth missing bronze all along, and he sets out to teach them a lesson for tricking him. Meanwhile the protest movement has persuaded buyers to shun auctions of stolen national treasures, and the shady dealers are threatening to destroy the sixth bronze in public. Will JC’s conscience – and his sense of Chinese national pride – kick in to push him to save the last bronze from destruction? The answer is played out on the slopes of an active volcano …

Thanks to Italia Films, we have 10 invitations to the Dubai premiere of ‘Chinese Zodiac‘ to give away.

Hitchcock is a love story about one of the most influential film-makers of the last century, Alfred Hitchcock and his wife and partner Alma Reville stunningly played by Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren. The film takes place during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie PSYCHO, which forced them to mortgage their house to get it made and released but then turned out to be a big hit and remains a classic in the history of cinema. Replete with Hitchcock’s sharp wit and Alma’s remarkable cinematic sensibility, the film is a touching and entertaining homage to the master of suspense.

Starring Anthony Hopkins, Helen Mirren, and Scarlett Johnson, Hitchcock will release in theaters across UAE on Feburary 7, 2013.

But why wait that long? Thanks to DIFF, Fox Searchlight and Empire Internaitonal, we have two invitation to the ‘Hitchcock‘ Dubai International Film Festival premiere to give away!

Grand Cinemas bans kids from theaters after 7pm

July 19, 2012 by Mufaddal Fakhruddin

Parents will not be permitted to take children below five years old in Grand Cinemas in UAE after 7pm, according to Gulfnews. The rule applies to every movie, even G-rated films, with the exception being animated movies.

“We recommend families take their children below five to movies with approved ratings before 7pm as after this time, it is a whole new environment at the movie theatres. Sometimes we get complaints of children making noise in the theatres and therefore recommend parents to adhere to this,” said Grand Cinemas digital project director, Andy Fordham to Gulfnews.

“There are times when we have to stop people from getting their children to halls late in the evening. From a medical perspective, it is not advisable to expose infants to loud sounds.”

Grand Cinemas will also be tightening up procedures of disallowing teens from watching 15+ and 18+ films without an ID proof.

“Children and teenagers always try and get into 15+ and 18+ movies and say they left their IDs at home. Hence, if we are unsure of anyone’s age in relation to their eligibility to watch a movie, we ask for photo ID with proof of age at the ticket counters,” said Fordham.

This is certainly a great move by Grand Cinemas to ensure a good viewing experience. We have all been annoyed by little kids crying or wandering aimlessly in the cinema halls while their parents try hard to seat them in their place. This just disturbs everyone trying to enjoy a movie, and it’s certainly great to know that Grand Cinemas has taken appropriate steps to deal with such a problem.
