Guillermo del Toro is set to Direct the new post apocalyptic feature film  Pacific Rim. The story penned down by Screenwriter Travis Beacham, has still not been picked up by any studio as of yet but the premise looks promising.

The plot revolves around future Earth being attacked by creatures unknown and man’s struggle to try and defend themselves. The title of the movie suggests the creatures may have emerged from the sea.

Guillermo del Toro is best known for his movies Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

Noted for his beautiful visualization’s, Del Toro is currently busy spearheading the movie At The Mountains Of Madness based on a H.P Lovecraft short story which is slated for release in 2013.Tom Cruise is rumored to be playing a role in the Lovecraft adaptation.

Pan’s Labyrinth was a feast for the eye’s, mixing fantasy, legend and visualization’s in perfect harmony. If Guillermo del Toro can bring his artistic style to a plot involving a post apocalyptic scenario, it would be one movie I would definitely be looking forward to.

Tomb Raider Reboot Scheduled For 2013

GK Films have officially announced they have bought the feature film rights to the Tomb Raider franchise. Producers Graham King and Tim Headington are looking to give femme fatale Lara Croft a radical makeover and a new set of adventures for fans to look forward to. GK Films acquired the film rights from entertainment company, Square Enix Ltd. In December 2010

Tomb Raider follows the adventures of treasure hunter Lara Croft, and her quest to collect rare artifacts for the benefit of historical documentation (and sometimes to make her purse a little heavier). The concept of the movie was based on the famous 1996 video game produced by Eidos titled Tomb Raider, which sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

Lara Croft has entered the silver screen twice so far, with Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life.  Angelina Jolie has played the role of Lara Croft in both movies, but has not yet been approached whether she is going to be taking part in the new production.

Since it is the era of reboots this new venture can either be a dream for the fans of the gaming franchise, or a movie that will be referred to on online debates as to why Hollywood should not make movies about games. Either way I am excited to see who’s gonna be playing Lara Croft.

Julianne Moore Signs Up For ‘Another Night’ Alongside Robert De Niro

Julianne Moore has signed up for Another Night Directed by Paul Weitz. She will be acting alongside Robert De Niro and Paul Dano (Girl Next Door). The Comedy Drama is based on the novel by Nick Flynn titled ‘Another Bullsh*t Night At Suck City’, which was gonna be the original name for the movie but was changed due to obvious reasons. (The name was too long?).

Another Night is still in its early stages of production so the cast roles haven’t been announced yet. The novel tells the tale of a young writer who meets a homeless man at a  shelter who turns out to be his father.

I loved Julianne Moore as Nancy Donavon in 30 Rock and her exemplary acting skills in The Big Lebowski and Chloe (Did anyone get there hands on the Uncut DVD? Trust me). With Robert De Niro added to the mix the movie is sure to be an interesting watch.

The movie is slated for release in 2012.

Alec Baldwin has signed on to play Dennis Dupree in Adam Shankman’s (Hairspray) feature musical Rock Of Ages.

Still in its pre-production stages, the musical has already signed on Tom Cruise as Stacee Jaxx and Mary J. Blige as Justice Charlier. It is rumored that Russel Brand may be joining the line up as well.

After laying low for a certain while amidst controversies involving his personal life,  Alec Baldwin has seen a recent surge of popularity after appearing on the hit comedy series 30 Rock created by Tina Fey (Mean Girls).

The movie Rock Of Ages is adapted from the hit Broadway musical of the same name. It follows the romance between a small town girl and a man she meets at a club called Rock Of Ages located at the Sunset Strip. The couple have to try and stay together, while going through  a barrage of 80′s themes and music.

As a personal fan of Jack Donaghy (we share the same love for money and power) Alec Baldwin’s character in the show, I am looking forward to this musical.

I can already see the leopard print spandex now…

Katherine Heigl will play the role of a bounty hunter for the new action comedy One For The Money by Director Julie Anne Robinson. The movie has completed production but no official trailers are out yet.

The story follows Stephanie Plum (Katherine Heigl) a jobless, recently divorced 30 year old who’s only lifelong companion is her pet hamster.Broke and with no one else to turn to, she decides to join her cousin’s bail bond buisness to earn some cash. Surprisingly the first assignment  (which pays the most cash) happens to be an ex-cop wanted for the murder of another police officer. It also turns out same guy she is looking for is one of the first guys to break her heart in high school. The Greys Anatomy star will be cast alongside Patrick Fischler who plays her bounty hunter cousin Vinnie Plum and Jason O’Mara as Joe Morelli.

The story sounds pretty interesting, an action movie with a romantic feel to it. Remember guys fool your girlfriends into believing its a romantic comedy, to hopefully catch a glimpse of Katherine Heigl wielding a gun and kicking butt.

The movie is scheduled for release in early June.

Here Comes Another Remake, Straw Dogs Has Finished Production

Any movie fanatic would remember the ultra-violent 1971 movie Straw Dogs starring Dustin Hoffman.Well Hollywood seems to have run out of ideas and has completed rebooting the movie for a new set  of movie  goers.

The movie (in the original as well as the remake) follows David and Amy Summers, who move away from the city for a quieter life. Their lives take a turn for the worse as they  face unbelievable torment by the locals in the area. David decides to fight back, resulting in extreme acts of violence. (Don’t wanna spoil it for you, so ill leave the violence to your imagination).

Now  i am on the fence as to whether the new version will be an enjoyable watch, or a constant scene by scene comparison of how the old one did it right and the new one failed.

Violence plays a major role in Straw Dogs, so i wonder how Director Rod Lurie would decide to express it in the reboot. Cinema as a media platform has been constantly pushing the envelope over the years in terms of what is acceptable viewable violence. With movies like SAW and Hostel already displaying excessive violence, will Lurie decide to push the envelope a bit further or will he take the easy road out and decide to tone it down a notch.

Another reason I am a bit sceptical about the movie is the lead roles played by James Marsden (David Summer) and Kate Bosworth (Amy Summer). Marsden and Bosworth would have to really step out of their comfort zones as actors to portray the horrendous ordeals they face as David and Amy Summer.

The remake is scheduled for release in early September in the US and is still TBA in the United Arab Emirates.

Hopefully when the movie arrives in cinemas I would have to present my ID to get in, if not for the nudity at least for the excessive violence we as an audience have come to love.

New Trailer For James Gunn’s ‘SUPER’ Looks Awesome

James Gunn’s new superhero movie SUPER looks pretty amazing. In the movie Rainn Wilson (The Office) plays Frank a regular joe. After his wife (Liv Tyler) leaves him for a suave drug dealer(Kevin Bacon), Frank dons a costume and becomes the Crimson Bolt taking to the streets his fury in hopes of one day getting his wife back. His sidekick Boltie is played by Juno star Ellen Page. She helps him find his ‘superhero ability’ and kicks butt along the way.

James Gunn, Writer/Director of the movie uses indie  touches to his camera work make the premise look more realistic. The trailer looks like the movie is gonna be pretty interesting, and hopefully not another run of the mill superhero movie that seems to be quite the rage nowadays. (Apart from Kick-Ass of course). With a summer full of superhero movies abuzz will SUPER stand out?

The movie opens on April 1st in LA but is still TBA in the United Arab Emirates.

The trailer can be viewed below.
