‘The Dark Knight Rises’ new poster sets Gotham on fire

After some of the best marketing material for any movie this year, ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ offers up a new poster for the film that isn’t quite as effective or sublime as the previous posters that came before, but works as great symbolism and striking imagery nonetheless. At this point, they should pretty much stop making more posters because anyone who ever was the audience for the film will be there first day first show.
The fire engulfing Gotham City is beautiful to see and it does re-use artwork from previous posters, but somehow the shot of Batman standing there looks odd compared to the rest of the poster. There’s something off about how he’s positioned and integrated into the image, but the tagline is effective and once again hints at a not-so-good end to the story.

First images from ‘Taken 2′ reveal a still bad-ass Liam Neeson

‘Taken’ made an action star out of Liam Neeson and he’s been doing lead roles to supporting roles in big action movies ever since. Now, ‘Taken 2′ is nearing completion which actually turns the table in terms of plot with Liam Neeson and his wife getting kidnapped and their daughter having to go out and save them. It’s a pretty interesting idea which gives Maggie Grace a lot of action to do, but looking at the first images of ‘Taken 2′ here, looks like Liam Neeson will be doing most of the heavy lifting anyway.
The images come from EW who also have an interview with Neeson who says this about where ‘Taken 2′ falls:
“The action is supposed to take place about a year or a year and a half after the first story. It’s a very clever sequel with the usual thrills and spills, but the ante is upped quite a bit in this one.” … “I’ve taken a job over in Istanbul looking after a sheik who is there, and afterward I discover that my wife’s going through a very bad time with her new husband. So I suggest she and my daughter come over for a few days and hang out with me in this amazing city. And then… [laughs] all this s—t happens, of course.” … “I’m taken — let’s put it that way. They kidnap him to humiliate him, torture him, and ultimately bring him back to the village in Albania where the boys from the original film came from. With the help of my daughter… she wants to help me escape from where these bad guys have me.”
Sounds good, and I’m on board. What do you expect from the sequel?
‘Skyfall’ teaser poster is classic James Bond

Not much is known plot-wise about the new James Bond movie releasing in October, but there is talk that the London underground tunnels will play a role in it. The teaser trailer should be online any minute, but Sony has gone ahead and released a first teaser poster of the film which is classic in design and echoes the whole London underground bit.

Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
Directed by Sam Mendes, the film will star Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Berenice Malohe and Naomie Harris. It’ll hit cinemas here before US, so cheers for that.

‘Anchorman 2′ teaser poster has a lot of legs

It’s still very unbelievable that the sequel to the 2004 comedy ‘Anchorman’ is actually happening with Paramount on-board with Adam McKay as director with Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carrell and David Koechner returning along with the rest of the gang. While the film still doesn’t have a script, here is an early teaser poster for the movie which will have its teaser trailer releasing online very soon.

Pretty standard teaser poster material considering the movie hasn’t been shot yet, but then you notice the legs closely and there’s some odd about them and I think that’s what makes these guys so hilarious – finding subtle comedy in even the smallest of things.

First look of Ashton Kutcher as Steve Jobs in ‘jOBS’, begins filming

Those who were skeptical when Ashton Kutcher was cast to play young Steve Jobs in the indie biopic ‘jOBS’ (creative title by the way, not.), the following images of the actor in character will give you a sense of whether you were right or wrong all along. TMZ has snapped these images of the actor in costume and the get-up of the hippie Steve Jobs and you can see them below:

While he does look a lot like the actor, I still don’t believe that he’s an actor good enough to play Steve Jobs. At best, he will be playing a version of himself that is the closest to Jobs as he can get. Joshua Michael Stern is directing the script by Matt Whiteley, and the movie will be about the guy’s early days at Apple. It has already begun filming now at the original Apple garage, and will “shed new light on Steve Jobs’ most defining and personal moments, motivations, and the people that drove him”.
Here’s the press release below for more information about the tone of the film:
Steve Jobs Movie Begins Filming in the Original Apple Garage
Ashton Kutcher Stars in Title Role
LOS ANGELES, May 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — The film chronicling the life of Steve Jobs, the Apple Inc. co-founder and charismatic master of innovation, begins principal photography in June and in keeping with the project’s commitment to accuracy and authenticity, will film early scenes in the actual Los Altos home where Jobs grew up and in the historic garage where he and Steve Wozniak founded Apple.
Titled jOBS, the biopic stars Ashton Kutcher as the iconic Silicon Valley visionary, and will shed new light on Steve Jobs’ most defining and personal moments, motivations, and the people that drove him. The film covers Jobs from his early years as an impressionable youth and wayward hippie, through his initial successes and infamous ousting, to his storybook return and ultimate triumphs as a man who set out to change the world and did just that.
Executive producer Mark Hulme and Five Star Feature Films launched the production immediately following Jobs’ retirement in August 2011. Screenwriter Matt Whiteley, while penning the script, utilized a team of expert researchers based on months of exhaustive research and interviews with Steve Jobs’ friends, colleagues, and mentors to develop the most truthful and gripping picture of Jobs’ life.
From director Joshua Michael Stern (Swing Vote, Neverwas), and Oscar winning cinematographer Russell Carpenter (Titanic), jOBS details the major moments and defining characters that influenced Steve Jobs on a daily basis from 1971 through 2000.
jOBS chronicles the 30 most defining years of Steve Jobs’ life, as seen through his, colleagues’, and friends’ eyes. Dark, honest, and uncompromising, jOBS plunges into the depths of his character, creating an intense dialogue-driven story that is as much a sweeping epic as it is an immensely personal portrait of Steve Jobs’ life.
A rousing narrative of this business and tech icon, jOBS pulls no punches and does not speculate, telling only the candid and captivating account of the life of Steven Paul Jobs.
The film is represented by Creative Artists Agency.
jOBS will be released in late fall 2012. For more information go to www.thejobsmovie.com.
‘The Avengers’ leads to rise in shawarma sales

There was a scene at the end of the credits in ‘The Avengers’ that UAE audiences didn’t get to see. And no, I’m not talking about the reveal of the new villain in the sky (being vague for no spoilers). There was another scene in the U.S. version right at the end of the film where all our heroes sit together at a restaurant and enjoy shawarma at a shop that Tony Stark mentions during the finale of the film. Clearly, watching bad-ass superheroes eat shawarma is enough to sell American audiences on that delicacy and it worked wonders – the shop in question is now facing sell-outs.

TMZ reports that restaurants and cafes that sell shawarmas in Los Angeles are seeing 80 percent increases in sales and some shops are facing sell-outs by audiences wanting to try it out after a mention in the billion dollar hit of the year. It’s kind of funny to see it mentioned in the movie since the food item is a normal thing here in the Middle East.
It was a moment that Joss Whedon and Robert Downey Jr. improvised on the set itself, and is a nice little gag that’s actually having a real life result.
