The reboot/prequel of ‘Planet of the Apes’ is really being put together quickly. It now has a lead actor.

Variety reports that James Franco (Spider-Man, Pineapple Express) has been cast as the leading man in the upcoming ‘Rise of the Apes’ set to be directed by Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist). He’ll play “a young, driven scientist who becomes a crucial figure in the war between humans and apes.”
Franco is a unique choice for the role as the actor never really had the chance to carry an action movie on his own. Apparently, he beat a number of young potential actors for the role so he must’ve shown them something they liked. The guy has Danny Boyle’s ’127 Hours’ upcoming along with the comedy ‘Your Highness’.
Principal photography begins July 5th 2010, and the film releases June 24th 2011
