The original ‘Planet of the Apes’ is a classic of its time especially because of a chilling ending. It was followed by lackluster sequels, until the awful Tim Burton remake brought the franchise to the ground. Now, Fox is planning to go back to the roots with a prequel.

20th Century Fox has officially announced the rumored prequel ‘Rise of the Apes’ which will be helmed by ‘The Escapist’ director Rupert Wyatt (great little movie) and a script by Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa will be used.
What will it be about? Here is Fox’s official synopsis:
RISE OF THE APES (tentative title) is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
A nice idea that will take the series back to its roots. But there’s a disappointing element in the story – the apes will be CGI for the first time rather than make-up. Now the CGI is done with famed company WETA Digital which also did ‘Avatar’, but a year is way too short to come up with realistic looking effects for such a movie. I hope they pull it off.
Movie is set for June 24th 2011.
