The following news upsets me so much that I have to control my rant here. Another studio has joined the hurried 3-D cash-grab business and has decided to hastily convert their promising tentpole summer movie into 3-D.

Deadline reports that the studio in question is Paramount and the film in question is the M. Night Shymalan adaptation of the animated series ‘The Last Airbender’ set to release July 2nd. They’ve got roughly two months to do the job and the company Stereo D, which also handled ‘Avatar’, is doing the deed. Shymalan reportedly agreed to the decision himself.
Anyone who wonders why this is a sad news should visit their closest theater tonight and watch ‘Clash of the Titans’ in 3-D. Then come back and tell me how beautiful the 3-D in that film turned out to be. ‘Clash of the Titans’ was also hurriedly converted to 3-D by Warner Bros. for a quick buck and looks like Paramount is doing the same. Doing a 3-D conversion right requires at least six months which Paramount doesn’t have, but then it also has more than the two weeks that Titans had. Still, I’m not sold on the failed results of a conversion and will be checking out the film in glorious 2-D.
