The trend of making toy-based movie adaptations isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. But making a movie based on a board game? Would love to see them pull that off. One of such projects is the upcoming ‘Battleship’ that’s gaining momentum and now has a lead actor.

HeatVision reports that actor Taylor Kitsch has been cast as the lead in ‘Battleship’, playing Naval commander Alex Hopper. The movie is adding an ‘alien invasion’ theme to an otherwise simple board game. Peter Berg is directing the film for a May 25th 2012 release.
Most people recognize Kitsch from the mediocre ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ where he played Gambit (my favorite X-Men character from the cartoon). He’s also playing the lead in Disney’s upcoming ‘John Carter of Mars’. Following the pattern of ‘Transformers’ and ‘GI Joe’, another rising actor has been cast.
Would you want to see a movie about ‘Battleship?
