Disney Already Working On ‘Tron’ Sequel

So ‘Tron Legacy’ shall release end of this year and is undoubtedly the best looking film of the year. Disney has spawned a Tron mono-rail and even a TV show is in  the works. But could a sequel be in the works for a movie that has more than sixth months to be released?

THR reports that Disney has hired writers  Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (Lost) to pen the script for the sequel. Since ‘Tron Legacy’ is a sequel to the old original film, is it fair to call this one a second sequel? Or maybe it is the first of the new trilogy? Regardless, there’s also a great quote here:

No details have been released because it is so early in the process. Notwithstanding the question of whether the movie will be a hit, other topics to ponder are whether the sequel will focus on spinoff characters or center on a new adventure set in the “Tron” world. Insiders have suggested that Kitsis and Horowitz are working on a way to round the story into a trilogy.

This might mean we’ve got a big film franchise on our hands, and that Disney is very pleased with what they’ve seen of the film. The actors are contracted for sequels, but we don’t know who will be cast considering the second movie isn’t out yet.
