‘Quarantine 2′ Is Happening, Won’t Follow ‘Rec 2′ But Will Be Set At Airport

The Spanish horror film ‘Rec’, as I’ve vocally said before, is one of the most frightening and well-made horror films ever. The U.S. was quick to cash in their own shot-to-shot remake ‘Quarantine’ that was a success but was ultimately a pointless exercise. Then came along ‘Rec 2′ (yet to be released here) that’s more of a thriller but is brilliant in its own way. Will Quarantine 2 follow? Yes and no.

Yes to the fact that there will be a Quarantine 2.Shock ’til You Drops‘ source reports that Sony has hired writer John Pogue (Ghost Ship) to write and direct the sequel. No to the fact that it won’t be a shot-to-shot remake of the Spanish sequel. In fact, it won’t follow it at all. While Rec 2 continues the storyline in the same apartment building, Quarantine 2 will take the setting to an airport where a quarantine will be set in place after an outbreak.
I won’t spoil it for you, but as you watch Rec 2, it will be very clear that Hollywood can never remake this film. But it’s good to know that they’re branching off on their own and not just copy-pasting another superior film. But sources say this will be a direct to DVD endeavor, which is disappointing to say the least. Also, it sounds similar to the plot of ‘Resident Evil: Degeneration’ (an animated horror film released recently).
Will you see another Quarantine or stick to Rec?
