Like last year’s ‘Avatar’, if there’s one film this year that needs to be seen in IMAX 3-D, it’s Disney’s ‘Tron Legacy’. It’s also releasing the same time of the year. But will there be an advantage to fork out that extra 20 bucks other than an oversized screen? You bet.

Slashfilm reports that five action sequences from the film will be displayed in 1.7:1 aspect ratio in IMAX cinemas, as revealed by director Joseph Kosinski. In a gist, this is what this really means. When you watch a movie in IMAX, usually it’s widescreen and has black bars on top and bottom. The film has to be shot on IMAX aspect ratio 1.7:1 for it to fully fill that screen. The Dark Knight and Transformers 2 did this previously by creating action sequences that fill more screen space and Tron will do the same here. It’s definitely a film that would benefit from it.
Tron Legacy will debut its trailer very soon and opens December 17th 2010.
