This is the most ironic news ever. The director of a movie which got creamed at the box office due to another movie is directing the sequel to that movie. That didn’t make so much sense either.

THR reports that director Kevin Greutert, who directed ‘Saw VI’, has signed on to direct the sequel to the blockbuster horror film ‘Paranormal Activity’. Writer Michael R. Perry is penning the script while Jason Blum and Oren Peli are serving producing duties.
This news also confirms that sadly, ‘Paranormal Activity’ is treading ‘Blair Witch’ ground here. Remember ‘Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows’? Me neither. It was one of the worst cash-in horror sequels of the decade and successfully buried the franchise. That’s what you get when you take an original idea and give it in the hands of someone else to make a quick buck off. Looks like Paranormal is heading in that direction unfortunately.
Oren Peli, director of the original, is optimistic though:
“These guys get it, and the fans won’t be disappointed.”
I for one immensely enjoyed Saw VI so there might be a slight chance this could be good. And here’s another nice bit – it’s opening in the U.S. on October 22, once again facing off ‘Saw VII’ which will be in 3-D. Are they trying to compete with Saw or make it an annual tradition like ‘Saw’? I’m betting on ‘Saw VII’ winning though.
